This exhibition presents recent photographs by Bill Henson, selected by the artist, and encompasses translucent portraits and nudes, lush museum interiors and haunting landscapes, to create an intimate space where the viewer’s imagination can roam. The images in this show are drawn from a body of works created between 2008 and 2013, and continue Henson’s study of the human condition, of the unknowable and the familiar, the strangeness and mystery of the world, which he has realised over his distinguished forty year career.

In 79 BCE Mount Vesuvius erupted, burying the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum under huge waves of volcanic ash and debris. As many tried to flee, the Roman Navy attempted a heroic but ultimately tragic rescue of victims stranded at the foot of the volcano. You are invited to explore the disaster that unfolded as a result of the eruption and learn how the control of the Mediterranean gave the Roman Empire unprecedented prosperity.

I Am My Own Wife is an examination of the true life of German antiquarian Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. Run screaming down memory lane with the monster Gods of Australian comedy - the Doug Anthony All Stars. In the 80s and 90s, they terrorised the world with their infamous live shows; provocative, psychologically manipulative, gleefully tasteless - DAAS kicked political correctness out the door and gave it a damned good thrashing outside. In 2013 Paul McDermott and Tim Ferguson joined forces with their mentor Paul “Flacco” Livingston and began a massive run of sold out shows across Australia. This year, they returned in triumph to the Edinburgh Fringe and to London, picking up the “Spirit of the Fringe” award, and being voted in Chortles (UK) top ten comedy shows of 2016. DAAS return to Perth. Be unnerved, be mildly unnerved.
